Music for the Journey

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Songs often speak of travelling, either of going to places or speaking of the journey day by day. Below are a few of them.

Dusty Tracks - Helma Sawatzky
The way of Christ is not always the easy or popular route.

Far Away Places - written by Alex Kramer / Joan Whitney
Dreaming of going places. A song that was a favourite of mine while I was singing in a barbershop choir.

I’m Gonna Be (500 miles) - The Proclaimers
How far would you walk? Personally I’d rather bike.

Lonesome Traveller - Lee Hayes
Sung by the Canadian group The Travellers among others

Step by Step and Sometimes by Step - Rich Mullins
Following God’s path day by day

Amazing Grace: The Movie

Friday, February 16th, 2007

I don’t go to the movie theatre often. I like to wait for movies that I think will be worth the price and the experience. One movie that is being talked about alot that I am looking forward to is Amazing Grace. It the story of William Wilberforce and his efforts to bring about an end to slavery in the British Empire. John Newton, who wrote the song Amazing Grace, was one of the men that influenced Wilberforce. It is coming out in the United States on Feb. 23. It sounds like it should be an interesting and inspiring movie from what I’ve heard, but I read a comment on the forum that it won’t be in Canada until March. I guess I’ll have to wait, or do you have any other information?

Last year I received an album by a group called Arpay. It is an enjoyable listen of the melodies of a group performs in the traditional style of Andean music.
